Procedures

Axcess Medical Imaging's radiology clinics specialize in some of the most advanced radiology scanning procedures available in the world today. We perform two classes of scans.

  1. Advanced scanning procedures are for visibility, diagnostics and staging of known or suspected health conditions, examples being a PET scan to assist in staging a known cancer, or 4D CT reconstruction to exactly isolate the location. of a tumor prior to surgery
  2. Routine screening exams are for potential or unknown medical conditions, examples being virtual colonoscopy or whole body scans.

In the following pages you will find information about our advanced scanning procedures, how to prepare for them if you are a patient, and examples of the images produced. The screening exams will be found on the Healthcare Screening section of this web site, under Patient Education. Click on the links provided below to learn more about these procedures.

MRI Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Uses radiofrequency and a magnetic field rather than X-rays to provide remarkably clear pictures of soft tissues especially near and around bones. Often used for sport related injuries.
MRA Magnetic Resonance Angiography
A specific type of MR scan that focuses on the circulatory system issues like heart disease, stroke and blood vessel diseases.
CT Computed Tomography, also called a CAT scan
Using computer assisted scanners to show many types of tissues with great clarity from multiple angles.
CTA Computed Tomography Angiography
A specific type of CT scan that focuses on the circulatory systems, helping to visualize blood flow in arteries
PET Positron Emission Tomography
Based on how the body metabolizes an ingested or injected substance, PET scans are used extensively for detection of cancer and evaluation of treatment results.
PET Fusion Combining PET and CT
To aid in patient treatments. Combines the power of 2 modalities to provide a clear indication of tumor locations. The two methods complement each other by combining the strengths of each type of scan.
3D CT Reconstruction Using computers to create a (3D) 3 dimensional, or (4D) 3 dimensional with skin layers as reference points, view of CT and CTA scan results.  This method can aid in better visualization of problem areas because animation can be used to rotate the view from multiple angles.
Digital Mammography Digital mammography was developed for many important reasons. The system transfers images to a computer so they can be electronically enhanced. Your doctor can zoom in, magnify and optimize different parts of the breast tissue using just four standard pictures. And special software allows your doctor to view the entire breast on one image.
Stereotactic Breast Biopsy Stereotactic Breast Biopsy.  This revolutionary procedure involves the use of digital mammography technology in order to isolate and identify breast abnormalities.  Using mammographic guidance, a tiny sample of abnormal breast tissue is retrieved (biopsied) for analysis.
Breast MRI Breast MRI uses Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to look specifically at the breast. It is a non-invasive procedure that doctors can use to determine what the inside of the breast looks like without having to do surgery or flatten the breast (as in a mammogram).
Digital Plain Film X-Ray Digital X-Ray allow our Radiologist to collect X-Ray images electronically, then view and manipulate the images on a computer screen, improving diagnosis.
Virtual Colonoscopy Virtual Colonoscopy is an extremely safe, minimally invasive colon screening which can only be performed on a multi-slice spiral CT scanner with the appropriate computer software.
